Poker Blog #4: We’re giving it away in July 2017!

redbet poker has now been back online for just over a month… and what a month it’s been!

In that time there’s been the MPNPT event in Malta and the second of seven redbetLIVE events at casino Dragonara.

The redbetLIVE events in Malta are €200 entry with €10k gtd.

Dragonara Casino, Malta: Holiday Poker Palace

Dragonara Casino, Malta: Holiday Poker Palace

These prizepools are not going to change your life, but a weekend in Malta for poker will cost you about €700 including your flights, hotel, buyin some pastries and a few beers. The tournament structure is very relaxed, we’re bringing the holiday feel and the IDGAF philosophy to poker!
We’ll be putting some satellites on for these poker holiday weekenders, and we suggest our British and Scandinavian friends look out for them because when it starts to get Autumn cold for you guys, it will still be Summer-hot here in Malta!

We’ve taken a very gentle approach to our launch, consciously avoiding using aggressive affiliate deals and focusing on attracting real, recreational players.
There are currently around 500 totally organic, genuine low-stakes recreational players on redbet, which is laying the ground work for a real community.

The view from Dragonara Poker Room

The view from Dragonara Poker Room

We have two months of free-entry tournaments happening every day at 6pmUTC with €50 gtd and €500 gtd on a Sunday at 4pmUTC, these continue until 30th July and are open to ALL players who register an account.
These freerolls have not had the uptake we thought they would!
With average 25 players on the dailies and 50 players on a Sunday, there is super value in these games, so join us at the redbet tables to help yourselves to our money!

There are genuinely no restrictions, yredbetLIVE pokerou don’t have to deposit or play any raked hands first, you can just join in for free and potentially grind a bankroll from €0!
We’re also very proud of the online freeroll structure! Freerolls traditionally have such gamble heavy structures that it’s impossible to enjoy a nice game of cards whilst playing one.
With a 3k starting stack, 8 min blinds and 25c rebuy/addon there is room to actually play poker in the redbet online freerolls.

Everyone who registers also gets €50 pending bonus immediately, again- no deposit required. This offer expires on 4th July when our 1st deposit bonus will kick in, so if you haven’t taken the extra €50 no deposit pending bonus, get involved now: all you have to do is register.

A huge, €100k gtd network promotion starts early in July, based on the MicroGaming achievement system, and this promises to reward even the lowest raking players.
There are tickets and cash prizes to be won, so make sure you’re ready for that promotion from 10th-30th July.

There is a lot happening on redbet, and we’re gonna keep on, so join us, follow the story and be part of the community from the beginning!

redbetLIVE at Dragonara: Event 2 Day 2

Day two will start at 1pm with 19 players and blinds at 800/1600/100.

Lvl 13 – 800/1600/100 – 19 players

Few empty seats as not all players made it in time for clock start at 1pm. We suspect there may be some political celebrating happening!

Sascha "The Man" Manns

Sascha “The Man” Manns

Early elimination as Sascha Manns got his short stack in. He busted so quickly we didn’t even see what happened!
This means there are now just 18 players remaining and playing for €10260. We’ll post the prize structure here shortly.

We’ve just been told off by John Sammut for “letting” his son Clint leave the cardroom to go and enjoy the fruits of the Dragonara buffet! LOL.
Like we could make a poker player do anything anyway.

Any buffet about, Clint? Grab us a plate.

Teemu Hietala has been eliminated by Tristian Chevalier.

Teemu Hietala

Prizes are as follows:

1st € 3,290
2nd € 2,252
3rd € 1,639
4th € 1,129
5th € 821
6th € 616
7th € 513

Lvl 14 – 1k/2k/200 – 17 players

Mark Adams 3bet Fabrizio Naselli from the button with AJ after Naselli opened in MP.

Mark Adams

Mark Adams

The flop was Ad8d9d, Naselli checked and then raised all in after Adams bet 18k into 27k.
Adams considered his options before calling all in for 45k as he had top pair and a flush draw with Jd. Naselli turned A9 for flopped two pair and running bricks sent Adams to the wall.

He’s not too bothered, he prefers cash poker anyway!

Lvl 15 – 1200/2400/200 – 14 players

Marco Curmi and Diogo Bento have been eliminated.

Totti Lind and Kristian Haegvik got into a big hand after Lind limped UTG and Haegvik raised to 12.5k from UTG+1. Lind called and they went to the flop heads up.
They both checked on 10d7s6h and the Lind lead the 3s turn for 15k, Haegvik called.

The river was 6s and Lind instantly shipped the lot for around 60k, Haegvik instantly called and Lind immediately said, “Good one. Ace High.”_00a4069
Haegvik turned over Ad6d and eliminated Lind with his larger stack and his rivered trips. Everyone’s favourite Swede hits the rail, and there’s always a big gap at the table when his personality and chat leaves. #LoveLind

Markus Larsson eliminated in 13th place.

John Sammut is nicking pots like a boss with tricky river bluffs… and then showing the table. Sammut Destruction!

Maurizio Autellitano

Maurizio Autellitano

We joined a table on a flop of 3dJs4d where Haegvik had checked, Abela had bet 35k into 58k and Maurizio Autellitano had shoved all in for a total of 80k
Haegvik tank folded and Abela called, turning over QQ. Autellitano showed KJ and got no help.
Haegvik stated afterwards that he folded KK… and we believe him, mainly because we saw his cards!

Conor Coady has been eliminated in 11th place after waiting till the turn to shove his 75k with top pair, Kings. Unfortunately for him, Abela turned a straight and Coady was dead on arrival.
“Oh fu*k my life!” Coady muttered when he saw his opponent’s cards.

We feel your pain, Conor, sometimes tournament poker is a masochistic endeavor, but we still come back for more, because when it’s good, it’s oh so good!!

Conor Coady

Conor Coady

Players are now playing hand for hand with five on each table, as they are now on the final table bubble.

Full double for Lars Volliner against Phil Pearson when he flatted Pearson’s open and they went heads-up to the flop. Pearson led for 9k and Volliner called on 6d9s7c.
Pearson bet again on the Kh turn for 25k and Volliner called again.
The river was 10s and Pearson checked. Volliner shipped 45k into a pot of 70k. Pearson looked like he hated life, scratched his head and then announced he was gonna make “a hero call”.
The hero met with difficulty as Volliner showed 910 for a ten high straight. Pearson showed A10.

Lvl 17 – 2k/4k/400 – 10 players

A couple of hands later Pearson was all in on a 2d6c10c10dAc board and Abela was facing a decision. Abela eventually called with K10 and Pearson was eliminated in 10th place, forced to show a bluff with J4d.
“Well, that was creative,” said the ever cheerful Pearson as he left the table.

We are now having a very short break before final table starts.

Big hand between Tristian Chevalier and Fabrizio Naselli.
They were both aggressive until the river, and Naselli as the last aggressor on the turn asked Chevalier “Why you just call on the turn”.
The full runout was 4dAc4h9sKc and after thinking for a bit, Naselli bet 100k into aound 85k. It did not take Chevalier long to call, and he instantly mucked as Naselli showed K4 for a full-house. Chavalier did not look impressed as he was left with 23k.

Tristian Chevalier

Tristian Chevalier

He doubled in the very next hand against Abela after getting lucky with KdJd v Abela’s Ad5d allin pre-flop and turning trips.

Chevalier was on a roller coaster as he then doubled up Vollier after Vollier called Chavalier’s shove with 99 vb A6 and 99 made a boat on the turn.

Chevalier was then down to less than a big blind, again getting dealt A6, but Caruana found pocket Jacks that held and Chavalier was eliminated in 9th place.

Lvl 18 – 3k/6k/500 – 8 players

As the average stack on the final table is nearly 40bb, there are a lot of multiway flops happening. There’s plenty of play and the remaining contenders are making good use of that to have a decent game of poker.

Atmosphere is super-chill. Weather is sunny. Poker tournaments are great.

Just saying. Click the link.

After aggressive action pre-flop Haegvik was all in for 110k against Fabrizo Nasrelli who held AK.

Kristian Haegvik

Kristian Haegvik

An AhKd5d flop did not initally look good for Haegvik, the Qc on turn made it seem even uglier and it all looked bleak until… nothing… Haegvik was eliminated on the bubble. Which always sucks. Unlucky, and well played, dood.

BREAK – 30mins

Lars Volliner

Lars Volliner

Lvl 20 – 5k/10k/1k – 6 players

Lars Volliner was eliminated by Fabrizio Naselli after he got it all in with AsKs versus two red eights preflop and couldn’t win his race.
Lars was eliminated in 7th place and was paid: €513

Clint Sammut grumbled openly about his Dad being a risk to knock him out after he pushed all in for 34k after John Sammut limped.
Naselli called the 34k from the big blind and Sammut Snr called too.
Flop was 5d2h7s and Naselli bet 30k, Sammut called.
They both checked the 2s turn and then Naselli bet 50k on the 8h river.

Clint Sammut

Clint Sammut

Sammut quickly mucked A10 face up and Sammut Jnr flipped over 66.
Turn was pretty good for Naselli there, tbf.

Clint Sammut eliminated in 6th place paid: €616

Maciej Rachwanijc

Maciej Rachwanijc

Maciej Rachwanijc eliminated in 5th place after shoving A5 into Konrad Abela’s AA preflop.

No help for Rachwanijc and he gets paid: €821

4 players remaining.

Tournament ended: 19:45

After Gaetano Caruana was eliminated from a cold where he went all in on the river with trip Aces and was called by Naselli with a better kicker.

Caruana paid: €1129

Deal negotiations between the top three began and after a few minutes of civil discussion John Sammut, Fabrizio Naselli and Konrad Abela asked to see the ICM worth of their stacks.
The quickly agree to the money, and then a more heated discussion ensued about the owner of the trophy.

The trophy officially belongs to Naselli on the basis of haveing the largest stack.
They did the ICM chop and all had a photo with the trophy.

redbetLIVE at Dragonara: Event 2 Day 1C

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 7 players

Play started with 7 players, but as the TD started the clock two players wandered in looking for action.
Currently overlay stands at €1.2k, but there is a good chance this tournament will hit the guarantee… or close. This makes an amazing statement about the Maltese residents commitment to poker, given there’s been an election AND a Champions League Final this weekend.

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100 – 7/17 remaining

Slight dispute surrounding the last elimination when a player opened UTG for 7k on 500/1000.
The dispute involved the infamous underraise rule, and as we’ve noticed this seems to cause a lot of confusion, let’s clear it up!

An underraise is a raise that is more than the standing bet, but not enough to re-activate action for players who have already made or called the standing bet. A bet must double the last raise to be counted as a full raise and so re-activate betting._00a4306

In this example, UTG opened for 7k on 500/1000, making the raise 6k. The big blind was 1k PLUS 6k raise.
The 7k was called by the small blind and the big blind shoved his stack, a total of 10500.
As the original raise was 6k on top of the blind of 1k, the amount required to be a full raise was 13k (6k raise plus 6k original raise plus the 1k blind).
The raise to 10500 was therefore, an underraise, and did not reactivate the betting for the UTG player who originally raised to 7k, so when UTG attempted to move all in, this was not allowed.

Hope this clears up the underraise rule!

Day 1C closed with 5 players:

Day 2 resumes tomorrow at 1pm from lvl 13 (800/1600/100).

redbetLIVE at Dragonara: Event 2 Day 1B

Despite the election, players are slowly dribbling in, and although clock start will be slightly delayed, we will definitely be dealing Day 1B!

Only 10 players made it through from yesterday, with an average stack of 78k… so Day 2 is looking profitable so far!

Lvl 1 25/50 – 5 players

Clock started at 13:15 with five players. Cards are in the air, where are you?

Lvl 2 50/100 – 5 players

_00a3975All the seated players are tournament regulars and are playing a thinking man’s game.

Lvl 3 75/150 – 9 players

The best bit about this flight so far is that every time TD Paul Kelly makes an attempt to walk to the balcony and have a cigarette, a player turns up to register; the local players are basically supporting the cardroom supervisor in a drive to a healthy and long life!
There is now a full tournament table (as we play 9-handed) and the cash table dealer is waiting for action.

The windows are open, the sun’s streaming in and there’s a potential overlay in this tournament! What more could a poker player want on a Saturday afternoon?

Er… someone’s already registered for flight 1C… maybe there won’t be an overlay? A tournament organiser’s dream!
That said, if we donate a few bob to the local poker community, it won’t hurt too much! #PaintTheTownRed

BREAK 15 mins

Lvl 4 100/200 – 9/10 players remaining

redbetLIVE at Dragonara

redbetLIVE at Dragonara

One re-entry in the bag! Seems reasonable, given the potential value.

Lvl 5 100/200/25 – 8/10 players remaining

There’s a really pleasant, calm afternoon atmosphere here at Dragonara. There seems to be as much pleasant conversation as poker.

There are still just over 2 hrs of registration left and joining now would mean that you have 150big blinds at your disposal with a 30k starting stack.
Alternatively you could keep 15k in the bank and try and spin up half your stack, only adding the rest if you need or want to. Such is the beauty of the double-chance format!

Lvl 6 150/300/25 – 8/10 players remaining

The talk is mainly about poker, with hot topics being Sviten Special and the many ways in which PLO8 (Pot Limit Omaha High/Low- available now on redbet poker online at a variety of stakes, starting from just €2 sitdown *pimp my site wink*.)

The busiest players at the moment are Conrad Abela and Sebastian Dominik who are often battling aggressively, although post play action is supper friendly._00a4100
Abela check-raised a full house on the flop after Dominik continued his post flop aggression in position. After Dominik folded, Abela showed him the hand, and Dominik was quick to compliment Abela on a “nice turn bet” in a previous pot that Abela won.

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 8/12 players remaining

We’ve had 9 unique entries and 3 re-entries. The players here this afternoon are experienced players, and they definitely smell the scent of value as the re-enter, but in the break we were chatting with a couple of the local regulars and they agree that this is a well-structured event for the buyin, with a great atmosphere!

Still time to join us, with 90 mins of entry remaining.

Lvl8 – 250/500/50 – 9/13 players remaining

Despite the fact that there are not many players, there is so much play  in this tournament, that everyone still has at least 40 bigs.
There is more aggression, probably due to players realising that their re-entry opportunity is slipping away, as well as the fact the have been playing a close game with eachother for more than 2 hours now.

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50- 9/14 players remaining

Two eliminations and a re-entry in the last level after a sick hand that went four ways to the flop.
Lars Larsson opened UTG and was 3bet by Kristian Hageich to 3100.

Lars Larsson

Lars Larsson

Charlo Azzopardi called from MP and Sebastian Dominik called from the big blind which kept Larsson in.
The Ac5c3c flop was checked by Dominik and Larsson and Hageich bet out, Azzpoardi called and then Dominik shoved all in for around 16k. Larsson re-shoved for 25k and Hagiech tank folded, with Azzopardi quickly calling.
Dominik turned A5os for two pair, Larsson showed 9c10 clubs, but Azzopardi turned Q8c to win a massive pot.

BREAK 15 mins

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 7/14 players remaining

Entries now closed on Day1B, with three more levels of play to go.
There is a plan in case they play down to three players, but that will be stated if and when it’s necessary.

There are already two entries for tonight’s flight.

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/100 – 6/14 players remaining

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100 6/14 players remaining

With just 25 mins left of Day 1B left the players are grinding it out to make Day2. With average stack for Day1B currently standing at 70k, they are not far behind the average of qualifiers from Day1A, which was a 78k average over 10 players.

If one player is unfortunate and busts at the last minute, they can enter flight 1C, on which the clock is just about to start.

Play closed on Day 1B

Four players survived Day1B, making the current Day2 average 79k:

Day 2 play commences on Lvl 13/800/1600/100 at 1pm on Sunday 4th June.

redbetLIVE at Dragonara Malta: Event 2 Day 1A

Cards are in the air on Day 1A!

Lvl 1 25/50 – 11 players

Too early for much action to have taken place, but the professional photographer, Joe Hall has just rocked up, so watch this space for some sexy photos of all your favourite local players!

Worth mentioning that on redbet online in ten minutes there is a €50gtd freeroll happening and there are currently only 19 entrants! Get yourself onto the poker client and get playing!

The pots are small and conservative as is to be expected when the stacks are deep and the blinds are small, but Gaetano Caruana is already making his presence felt when he made a hefty river bet, on Jh8d2h4hQd.
Three players saw the river after Mark Adams made a stab at it on the flop and pulled in two callers. The turn checked all the way round and then Gaetano took charge in position on the river, netting a 2275 point pot.

_00a3893Phil Pearson, a British immigrant now living in Malta, bringing with him the whiff of British fish, just managed to take 15k off another player by getting all in pre-flop with AA v QQ and running out a nut flush. This is why the Maltese were glad to see the British leave the island.
Luckily, this event has a double-chance structure, so the unlucky player with QQ can now take his 2nd 15k stack and stay at the tables!

Lvl 2 50/100 – 18 players

John Zammit took a nice pot from the SB on table 1 after limping to a raise to 500 from the BB pre flop. Zammit accidentally said “two thousand” on the flop first to act, and claimed he meant 200. The dealer enforced the 2k stated bet on Kd6cQs. The BB called.
The turn was 7d and both players checked to see the 5h river.
Zammit bet 5oo and was quickly called. Zammit turned over 6h2h and won the pot as his opponent mucked.

Lvl 3 75/150 – 21 players

No eliminations so far, and the first batch of photographs are on the way as the tiny media team battle valiantly with the angry Maltese WiFi!

BREAK AT 21:07

Lvl 4 100/200 – 22 players

Gaetano Caruana

Gaetano Caruana

Maximum chill here as the 9 handed tables start to fill up.
There is some discussion of whether Day1B will go ahead tomorrow at 1pm due to the election. We’ll be here players! If you come down, we’ll be waiting. And, hey, if the afternoon flight doesn’t start, we’ll just have a few beers until the evening flight starts at 19:30!

Conor Coady limped from the c/o and called a raise from the button to see a 9s10d3h flop. Coady checked and the button continued his aggression for 800. Coady looked wounded, but called and both players checked the Qd on the turn.
Coady then bet the Ad river and his opponent tank folded.

No-one’s showing us any bluffs… so we have to assume they have it everytime, obviously (scratchy chin emoji).

The first player has just been eliminated! He wishes not to be named in the blog because he is an international man of mystery…
Initially he looked like he was going to spin it up after shoving 2.7k UTG+2 and getting called by Kevin Lee from the c/o. Lee had A4os and turned a straight, but the mystery man rivered a flush with his K9h.

A couple of hands later, he saw the flop from the big blind, in a pot with Maurizio Autellitano. They checked to the turn and Mystery Man shoved. Autellitano thought for a while and then called, turning over Kd8d on 9s8c5s3h. Mr Mystery turned over 7s3s for bottom pair with a gutter and was eliminated by the 5c turn._00a3890

Being the first to eliminate a player earned Autellitano a drink, courtesy of TD Paul Kelly. We left the table as they were arguing over whether a free drink reasonable constituted a bottle of Moet. We back Paul to win with the view that it doesn’t.

Lvl 5 100/200/25 – 22/23 players remaining

The pots are getting more significant as the blinds go up.
We saw an interesting pot when we approached the table on a Q694 turn and saw a young player jam his entire 15k stack into a 6k pot. John Zammit was tanking and eventually folded Q6 face up, only for his young opponent to show 69. These young bucks!

Dodgy rogue Phil Pearson fancies himself as a tournament blogger and sent us the following hand via WhatsAp:

” Our resident sheeo fanatic phil pearson raises under the gun to 600 at 100/200. Seat 9 calls. Seat 1 on the button looks down and likes what he sees, making it 2600 to play. Both players call and we see a 3 handed flop.

The dealers provided the action flop of Qd Th 3c. Phil and seat 9 check. The button throws in 4200. Phil calls quickly, and seat 9 folds and waits for a better spot.

The turn brings the 9h. Draws a-plenty now. Phil checks again and seat 1 bets out 7500. Phil calls again and we see a river.

The river is the lady in waiting, Queen of diamonds, and phil bets 15k putting seat 1 all in. After some attempted speech play seat 1 folds amd phil takes the pot showing Ah Jh.”

We don’t know what a “sheeo fanatic” is either… Phil’s a weirdo. Please address all complaints to the British Embassy.

Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 23/25 players

Conor Coady

Conor Coady

Another elimination here! Nasko Jouischev was eliminated by Ina Pavlova as she flopped two pair with her A6 against his A8 and he shoved into her flop bet.
Stacks are still deep and registration is open for another 4 levels.
Day 1 play finishes after level 12.

 BREAK – 15 mins – 22:50

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 21/26players remaining

Chilled atmosphere prevails here at Dragonara with a good few beers being consumed.
We suspect there may be a bit of an overlay, so there might be value to be had in this tournament!

There are now three levels of entry remaining, so if you fancy playing get yourself to Dragonara before half twelve tonight and register. Stacks are 30k, so you will have plenty of play, even if you register at the last minute!
