Last Minute Chance to Get to Malta Poker Festival

mpfMore than six months ago, I convinced the redbet Casino VIP manager that he wanted to spend some of his budget on poker packages for the Malta Poker Festival, 1st-6th November 2018.

The reasons for this were two-fold:

  • 1) I genuinely believed it would be a nice gift to casino VIP players. Many play poker anyway, and I figured those that didn’t would be up for a nice Mediterranean holiday. Big live poker events are mainly handled by the event organiser, so to reward casino VIPs in this way is cost and effort effective for smaller brands like redbet.
  • 2)I couldn’t afford the sponsorship out of the poker budget alone.

Malta Poker Festival have a pretty good sponsorship deal, and redbet got 30 x packages of €1400 value included in the cost (we add €250 expenses to make the value to poker players €1650).
The agreement was that 15 packages belonged to the redbet poker department and 15 belonged to the redbet casino VIP department.

I’ve had great fun giving these away, and unlike some smaller poker brands, I was not desperately worried about overlay, because I had explained to my boss that we had agreed a marketing cost, and as a result had 15 x “shop window” products to shift.

At the time of writing, of the 30 Malta Poker Festival Packages that redbet bought from the organiser, 13 have been given to redbet Casino VIPs as rewards for being valued customers, 8 have been won in package finals (1 to go -5pmGMT 28th Oct), 4 have been given away in social media promos and 2 poker influencers were invited by me personally (Simon Jones cos he’s good craic and supports our brand, and Donna Morten who supports every poker brand).

Now, if you’re good at maths, you’ll count that as 28 packages… and 28 is a number that is 2 lower than 30; it’s that kinda maths skillz that make my bosses respect me.

The two extra packages are casino VIP ones that they did not get around to giving away, and I had a discussion with the VIP manager as to what he wants to do with them.
He had a couple of ideas, but in the end, I convinced him that the lowstakes poker community would be grateful for them, probably more than casino VIPs might.

He said, “yeah, go on then, offer them up”.

Boom. €3300 donated by the redbet casino team to the redbet poker function.
We probably owe them a beer!

Me working hard at a redbetLIVE event

Me working hard at a redbetLIVE event

I’ve decided to slap on two tournaments to win these packages.
I could have done a freeroll, but decided to give an advantage to players who have tickets already because they’ve been supporting the satellite route.
I have decided on a €1.25 unlimited rebuy tourney and a €6.25 unlimited rebuy tourney because these are the most common outstanding tickets in the system.
The lower value tickets can still be used to win €1.25 or €6.25 tickets for use in these aggro rebuy finals. Both structures will be quite aggressive, but the €6.25 will be less so due to the higher buyin.

They will happen at GMT 6pm (€1.25) 7pm (€6.25) in addition to the final scheduled package satty (€156.25) which starts at 5pm on Sunday 28th Oct.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the satellite route, there are many daily flips to win €1.25/€6.25 tickets and the route starts at 1c. The lower value flips are in place until Oct 25th.

The reason I’m writing this is for transparency about the methods we use to generate members, sales and package value.
I have nothing to hide in the way my company, or my poker network does business, so I may as well tell you about it, huh?

See you at the tables, or hopefully, in Malta very soon!

redbetLIVE at Dragonara: September 2018 Day 2

We’re all ready to go here, and we’re waiting for our players to arrive.
25 players are returning and the average stack is 69600.

Lvl 13 – 800/1600/100 – 25 players – av stack 69600

First casualty of the day as Thomas Pupar could not find a double for his short stack.

Maurizo Autellitano eliminated in 24th place.

Lvl 14 – 1000/2000/200 – 23 players – av stack 75600

Raphael Toledo eliminated in 23rd place.

Sesay Sulaiman eliminated in 22nd place.

Marion Mizzi eliminated in 21st place.

Losi Maria Rosa eliminated in 20th place.

Phil Pearson eliminated in 19th place.

Lvl 15 – 1200/2400/200 – 18 players – av stack 96k

Current chip leader is Andrea Stellato after Phil Pearson got fed up of his constant open raises and 3bet jammed 40 bigs with A9c. Stellato called with AQos and although chop outs were a reality on the turn, they did not come for Phil and his chips went flying towards the Mouth of Malta. Nice hand, Stellato!

Igino Xuereb eliminated in 17th place.

Mondelli Maurizio eliminated in 16th place.

We are powering through the players today! There are 7 paid places with a top prize of €3236 and min cash of €418.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 16 – 1500/3000/300 – 15 players – av stack 116k

Chipcounts at the 1st break:

day2-1st-break-chipcount

Lorna Zammit eliminated in 15th place. It’s not all bad news for her though, because she has just got the cutest puppy you have seen in your life… certainly cuter than any poker player!

Salvatore Ritrovato eliminated in 14th place.

Lvl 17 – 2000/4000/400 – 13 players – av stack 134k

Jesmond Aguis eliminated in 13th place.
This is a nine handed tournament, so we are 4 players away from the final table.

Lvl 18 – 2500/5000/500 – 12 players – av stack 145k

Jan Wouter eliminated in 12th place.

Alex Giordano eliminated in 11th place.

Karl Gialanze eliminated in 10th place.

final-table

BREAK – 30 mins

Players are now on the scheduled dinner break.

Lvl 19 – 3000/6000/500 – 9players – av stack 193k

The battle begins as only 7/9 players will get paid.
A bubble payment was discussed and rejected, so let play commence!

Instant doom for Luca Berita as he open shoved 99 from late position and bounced straight into Skawinski’s pocket tens which held up and sent Berita packing. GG, ciao!

Berman doubles against Galea after getting it in with top set on the turn and being called by Galea with the nut flush draw. The river was not the heart Galea needed, and so Berman is now a force to be reckoned with at this table.

Lvl 20 – 4000/8000/500 – 8 players – av stack 217k

After a tough grind, Durante Adolfo bust with AQ after getting it all in pre v Berman, who was holding pocket queens for the second time on this final table.
This elimination burst the bubble, and there are now 7 players remaining, with min cash at €418.

Lvl 21 – 5k/10k/1k – 7 players – av stack 248k

Mark Berman eliminated in 7th place after flopping two pair with 7-2 from the big blind. Bignalay haad sneaked in with QQ and rivered a 2nd pair to flick Berman out with a cash of €418.

Andrea Stellato eliminated in 6th place after both he and Skawinsk flopped a pair of Aces and then turned Aces up as the board paired. All the money went in and Skawinski had a Jack kicker with his Ace, Stellato only a 3.
Skawinski is now a monster chip lead.

Carnage as Skawinski wins a flip v Thomas. Thomas had no choice but to get 10bigs in with AQ pre. Skawinski had pocket sixes, but it wasn’t a race for long when Skawinski flopped a set and turned quads.
He is now monster chip lead plus a jaunty hat.

Raymond Galea eliminated in 4th place before we had even finished typing the last exit!

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 22 – 6k/12k/1k – 3 players – av stack 580k

Skawinski still way in front in terms of chips, holding 1/2 the chips in play.
However, with the shallow structure, the other two are far from out yet.

Play continues, and with 1st prize being almost twice 3rd prize, the competition is ON!

We are heads up after Falzon ran AQ into Bignaley’s AK preflop and although the turn gave him a gutter, it was not to be and he was elinated in 3rd place for €1566.

 Lvl 23 – 8k/16k – Headsup -av stack 870k

The two remaining players have flattened out the remaining money, and they are taking at least €2500 each with €428 and the trophy to play for.

We have a winner after a short heads-up! Well player to all players, and our winner, Vincennt

7th€ 418 Mark Berman
6th€ 731 Andrea Stellato
5th€ 1,044Mikael Thomas
4th€ 1,253 Raymond Galea

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, September 2018: Day 1C

Just waiting for 1 player to start the clock!

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 8/8 players

Let’s GOOOO flight 1C! Currently a slight overlay, but we’re okay lobbing €1.5k in the pot for the locals, you have supported us so well!
There is time to register, but hey,  no rush!

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 9/9 players

Local celebrity - Stellato

Local celebrity – Stellato

Stellato is already in action. We try to imagine a world without him, but honestly, it’s a dark and empty place.
Malta poker would not be the same without him.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 13/13 players

Players are arriving for the last chances to enter September’s redbetLIVE at Dragonara.

BREAK – 15 mins

 Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 13/14 players

We have some of the redbet regs here tonight, and we have swapped Tournament Directors from Fiora to Jeanelle.

We started a little late on this flight, so there are still over three hours of reg left on this tourney, which will close at around 00:45. Play will now finish at around 03:15 due to the late start.

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 15/16 players

We have some strong players battling tonight. We think a few of our regs are in UK for a big tournament at Dusk Till Dawn. Good luck to you all there!

Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 15/16 playerspy3a9342

We can’t quite believe it… but we’ve hit the guarantee…??? HOW? The support of the local poker community, that’s how!

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 15/18 players

The gtd has been met, but if you bust, and you’re here, you may as well re-enter, right?

Lvl 8 – 250/500/50 – 14/18 players

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 13/18 players

Last level of entry today. We are having a bit of trying to double up or bust for a rebuy. Konrad Abela crushing souls with Q6 off after jamming his short stack in pre and making a straight with the six. The other players loved it! (Not)

BREAK-15mins

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 12/18 players

Registration is now closed on flight 1c and this event has had 58 entries for a total prize pool of €10440.

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/100 – 11/18 players

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100 – 9/18 players

As we enter the last level of the day, we are contemplating flirting Stellato out of the tournament for being cheeky to the dealer? Should we?

8 players made it through from flight 1C, the total returning will be 25 for Day 2 at 2pm on Sunday 30th September.

day-2-1c-sm

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, September 2018: Day 1B

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 6/6players

Started bang on time today with some of the beloved redbet regs who turned up in time to play.
Traffic for this event is a little slow this time around, but we know the local players are busy trying to qualify for the two massive events happening on the Island in a few weeks.

redbet is sponsoring both Battle of Malta and The Malta Poker Festival, and online qualifiers are available now with feeder routes and finals for both complete packages and seat only tickets.
You can check out the full schedule by creating a poker account and looking at the poker lobby. (drop down menu on top left  if you prefer a language other than English).

We’re just gonna sit here and chill for the afternoon. What you gonna do?

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 10/10 playersTotti Lind redbetLIVE Malta

As expected, the players are arriving slowly for this afternoon.
Feel free to come and join us, this is a nine handed tournament, so there are seats open, you’ll sit down with 300 blinds right now.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 14/14 players

The gentle trickle of players continues! Satellite winner Totti Lind has rocked up  to play, we’re just glad he could find the casino!

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 14/15 players

Jackie Cachia AKA PokerMamma continues to run like a centipede with no legs as she manages to smash into Totti Lind’s AA preflop. We feel here pain, it’s not possible to overcome the #ScandiLuckbox effect. Unlucky PokerMamma, hope the 2nd bullet hits the mark!

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 13/15 players_00a7355

Crusing into level five, the atmosphere is friendly.
Three lads have turned up to see what’s happening. Should we convince them to play, or try to preserve the hope of some overlay?

Lvl 6 – 150/300/50 – 18/21 players

Sudden flurry of players as the afternoon sun begins to dip.
We get it guys, we love poker, but being able to sit on a beach all day in September is pretty good too!

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 14/21 players

Unusual for us to get more players on a Saturday afternoon than a Friday night, but hey, who can really predict the poker action on the Rock Of Poker?

Lvl 8 – 250/500/50 – 13/21 players

Technically still an hour to go of late reg on this flight, but reg for the evening flight opens at 19:30, so all the options are yours!

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 13/21 players

_00a7161We have entered the last level of play for Day 1B.
Given that only 8 players made it through  to Day2 from Day 1A, it’s looking like Day2 might be an easy day for the remaining players…?

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 13/21 players

Entry is now closed for flight 1B but open for Flight 1C!

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/50 – 12/21 players

Average stack in this flight is currently 52k which is more than enough to be a contender tomorrow, so we expect to see play tighten up a bit now as people want to get to Day2.
Playing six handed is much more fun anyway, as it’s more likely to be a good move to play a wider range of cards!

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100  – 11/21 players

Into the last level of play.
We will play down to 10 mins remaining in this level and then we will draw for 3/4/5 final hands.
Our players always seem to pick 5 hands blind from the card selection… we guess they just like playing!

10 players made it through to Day2 and return tomorrow, Sunday 30th at 2pm to continue play:
day-2-1b-sm

redbetLIVE at Dragonara: September 2018

Just waiting for one more body to start the clock on this event tonight!

Level 1 – 25/50 – 9 players

AAAAAANDD we’re off on the 5th event of the year!
It’s a small crew to start, but we expect that on a Friday night. If you’re playing at another casino, we wish you good luck, and remind you that reg is open here until 12:30 tonight, so if you bust, we’ll see you later!

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 10/10 playersa6

Gentle and peaceful start tonight. The structure is chilled enough that one player hasn’t bothered regging yet, she’s just sat next to us playing a computer game on her phone. It’s not always about poker!

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 13/14 player

One early bust out! One of redbet regs, Dario Pace Taliana ran into some trouble, but he’s an experienced player, he knows the bitter taste of variance, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him re-enter and come back to destroy souls.

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 15/16 players

Relaxed pace continues here. The starting stack is 30k, so if you wanna register right now, you’ll sit with 150 big blinds which is probably enough, right?

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 15/16  players

_mg_7787Not much movement here. Hands are won and lost, chips pass between players, flops are dealt, then turns, then rivers. This is what happens at poker tournaments you see?

Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 15/16 players

Quiet night here, but the time is passing quite quickly.
There’s always a lot of chat at these events, probably a side effect off the gentle tournament structure.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 16/18 players

One more elimination, as we go into the last three levels of registration.

 Lvl 8 – 250/500/50 – 15/18 players

Still max chill here. This is the lowest number of entries we have had for a Day 1A… so this bodes well for a little bit of overlay maybe?
We’re pleased to say that this event has yet to miss its gtd prizepool, so we’re happy to accommodate a little bit of a donation to the Malta locals!
There’s two more Day 1s though, Day 1B Saturday 29th at 2pm and Day 1C at 19:30, so I guess we had better not speak too soon!

_00a5461Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 14/19 players

Into the last level of the entry period for Day 1A. There’s been a couple of re-entries, and it’s relaxed enough that the Tournament Director Jeanelle, is able to eat sweets with the security guard.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 12/19 players

Registration now closed for flight 1A. There is a cash table open and running with 3 open seats.
The promotional gift for this tournament was an exclusive deck of redbet cards, so we may find a bit of rummy happening here later on. That’s how we roll, folks!

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/100 – 11/19 players

Down to the wire now for the remaining players. As Phil Pearson, another redbet reg, said, “everyone is fighting to stay in now”. Day 2 is the prize from this point on!

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100 – 8/19 players

The last blast is on.

#DeepInMakeUp

Sometimes it’s fun to win a poker promotion without having to play a hand of poker, right?

The multi-talented host of The Malta Poker Festival, Cat W-J, is getting into the spirit of Malta poker fun by teaming up with redbetLIVE to give away a package to a poker player with some sick make-up and fashion photography skills.

Cat has two beautiful poker themed shots of herself, and now we want YOU to recreate them!

Choose your favourite of the two, and put yourself in front of the camera.

You may produce a comedy shot, or a true beauty shot, but the three main criteria the final judgement will consider is:

  • Make-Up – You must be the subject of the photo, but you do not have to do your own make-up.
  • Outfit – style needs to be on point, and possibly a little bit fierce.
  • The photo much be a direct recreation of, or an homage to, one of Cat W-J’s shots and the poker theme must be clear.

DeepInMakeUp

To enter your photo, simply post it on your Facebook timeline, with #redbetLIVEMalta2018 #DeepInMakeUp and your redbet poker alias.

The winner will receive a €1650 package to the Malta Poker Festival 2018, 1st-6th November at Portomaso Casino, Malta which includes:

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, Malta, July 2018: Day 2

31 players return today to compete for a total prizepool of €15660.
The prize breakdown will be published shortly, as the players are arriving and opening their bags.

Lvl 13 – 800/1600/100 – 31 remaining – average stack 84k

Clock started and the 31 redbettors get to it!
Well, not quite 31, as three players are running a bit late. We suspect Saturday Night Shenanigans got the better of them!

Prize breakdowns announced, with all the final table players getting paid.

Flavia Guedes eliminated in 31st place.

John Sammut

John Sammut

John Sammut eliminated in 30th place, with redbetLIVE regular, Igino Xuereb being the benefactor of his chips.

Marek Jarub eliminated in 29th place.

George McIntosh eliminated in 28th place after Aicseli Hosig 3-bet him light with KhJh preflop, was called by McIntosh with AK and found the magic backdoor to flopping nut flushes.
After they hand, Hosig said, “yeah, I was betting you light, but I did have KK and QQ the last two times I did it,” it did not seem as if McIntosh was too fascinated by the story.

Lvl 14 – 1000/2000/200 – 26 players remaining – av stack 100k

Ferdi Duman eliminated in 27th place.

Dario Pace Talliana eliminated in 26th place.

Antoine DeGiorgio  eliminated in 25th place.

Lvl 15 – 1200/2400/200 – 24 players remaining – av stack 108k

Tunes are playing and it’s Scorchio. We love a bit of Sunday afternoon poker.

These sneaky incremental levels are what slows the structure down. In theory, this allows more skilled players an advantage, but if one’s strategy is nit the f*** up and hang on for a monster, it allows more hands to be dealt to bring the monster.
We personally love a deep structure, but what are your thoughts? More for gamble or more for playing complex street poker?

Simon Forster eliminated in 24th place.

Patrick Gulldek eliminated in 23rd place when he got all in pre-flop with A8 v A9. Everybody loves a chopped pot? Gulldeck would have, but a bag of rags made sure the nine kicker booted him railward.

Mikael Thomas eliminated in 22nd place.

Neville Grech eliminated in 19th place.
Riccardi Rossi eliminated in 18th place.

Madness on table 1 as Colley and Xuereb get themselves involved in a big pot. Colley had 40% equity preflop against Xuereb’s short stack, but couldn’t realise it as he turned a full boat to dead her.

She was left with 6 bigs and got it in next hand against Berman’s KK.
Xuereb decided not to rest, and got the rest of his newly doubled stack in against Berman with QQ.

When the flop delivered  a Q for Xuereb, who’s turning boats for fun today, he was left with a massive stack and Anna Colley has been eliminated in 16th place.

As a reminder to all, there are package satellites to Battle of Malta and The Malta Poker Festival playing on redbet online poker later today, with over €1.5milly gtd in prizepools between 25th October and 6th November this  year. Satties start at 1c and you can register for online poker room membership HERE.

Ina Pavlova eliminated in 15th place.

Davide Tundo eliminated in 14th place.

Konrad Abela got his short stack in preflop versus Berman for a race which he could not win and was eliminated in 13th place.

Zoltan Kavai

Zoltan Kavai

Zoltan Kavai found a spot to get his remaining chips in the middle preflop with A10 versus Berman’s pocket 66  and couldn’t find his half of the equity in that particular hand to be eliminated in 12th place.

Lvl 18 – 2500/5000/500 – 11 players – av stack 225k

Marc Schembri eliminated in 11th place after working a short stack like a beast for a long time.

Players now play hand for hand as we approach the dinner break and the bubble boy position looms.

David Lappin eliminated in 10th place after he lost chunks getting unlucky with KK getting outflopped by Liverhall’s pocket 10s after they got it all in preflop.

Players have now reached the final table and the money.
They have gone on a thirty minute dinner break.

Lvl 20 – 4000/8000/500 – 8 players – av stack 326k

Xuereb was getting short but managed to double against Hosia after getting it in with a flush draw on the flop versus Hosia’s top pair and finding the card he needed on the river. Play continues 8 handed.

Clint Sammut has apparently been “on 14 big blinds for 17 hours”. At least your decisions are easier?

Mr Squiggle, also known locally as Salvatore, eliminated in 8th place for €470.

They play onwards, 40 blinds deep.

Xuereb doubles again, this time through Victor Feu as his pocket eights held true against Feu’s pocket deuces when they got the money in pre flop.

The side event is getting rowdy as the play on the final table gets more intense.

Victor Feu eliminated in 6th place for €940.

Xuereb got his money in with two pair on a K610 flop against Hosia’s pocket Aces, and he was looking pretty solid until the river when an Ace materialised to give Hosia a set and eliminated Xuereb in 5th place for €1253.

 Lvl 23 – 8k/16k/2k – 4 players – av stack 652k

The remaining players are all experienced and lots of small pots are being won and lost without showdowns.

The battle continues 4 handed on the final table, with nobody giving an inch.
They did discuss reducing the length of the blind levels, but the current short stack, Hosia, declined the suggestion. Well, wouldn’t you??

Lvl 24 – 10k/20k/2k – 4 players – Av stack 652k

Akseli Hosia eliminated in 4th place for €1566 after getting brutalised by a miserable run of cards and then being forced to call off Sammut’s button shove with A6os and 15 bigs.
Sammut had AK and the runout went his way. Three remain.

The players are electing to take a 15 min break slightly ahead of schedule before continuing.

BREAK -15 mins

 Lvl 25 – 15k/30k/3k –  3 players – av stack 870k

Battle continues with a 25 big blind average, although Berman is currently chip lead.

After losing a race with 77 v Larsson’s AQ all in pre flop, he has been attacked from all sides, getting involved in pots with dirty runouts.
Mark Berman eliminated in 3rd place for €1566

Larsson and Sammut had a short break before agreeing to chop the remaining prizepool 50/50 and play out for the trophy.

After 7 hands, Sammut emerged the victor and raised the trophy with a song.

One hour to go on flight 1B.
23 players have made it through, how many will be back tomorrow from the remaining players?

Jonas Larrsson just won a massive pot, 300k+ after getting it in with the best set against another set and top two. Poker is sick, two eliminations in one hand, Larrsson with chunks, and one guy trying to bribe the TD for entry.
We love low stakes poker!!

8 players made it through from Day 1C, everyone will return tomorrow, Sunday 22nd at 2pm.
