Day 1B start time has been pushed back to 1:30pm to allow a few more entries.
There’s six so far, but it’s hardcore playing that short at this time of the day, so we’re starting a bit late.
* had a coffee
** eaten some cornflakes
€1/€2 cash table is already full here with another opening soon.
Lvl 1 25/50 – 11 players
Clock rock at 13:30 with eleven early risers!
It’s a beautiful day here, sun glinting off the sea, gentle breeze… ahhh… why wouldn’t anyone LOVE playing poker in Malta?
The photographer will be here at 5pm to catch some shots of 1B and 1C.
There’s already two cash tables, so if you’re thinking of playing this evening’s flight at 8:30pm then it might be worth popping down early for the cash action.
Lvl 2 50/100 – 13 players
You know what’s happening, you’ve played poker.
Someone raises, four people call, someone c-bets, one person calls, turn goes check/check, raiser bets river and wins pot – a classic Hold ‘Em tale, brought to you by tournament reporter of the year.
Lvl 3 75/150 – 15 players
15 seated players as some of the Army of Cash Playing Danes sniff around the tourney.
The roof has been raised on the cardroom and it’s sunny and gorgeous here in Malta. It’s not that we’re being rowdy, the Dragonara Cardroom actually has a removable roof! Wonders never cease!
We’ve just lost our first player of the flight, Gaetano Caruana. Unlucky Gaetano, fingers crossed that you are lucky with your next bullet if you choose to re-enter!
BREAK 15 mins
People are playing well, and not punting off stacks as there’s no need because of the deep structure.
Same as yesterday, there seems to be a fairly even split between players who take the full 30k and those who split it into two chunks of 15k. We’re still not sure which option is optimal strategy, but we’re sure it feels nice to run your stack into a monster and not bust!
Lvl 5 100/200/25 – 17 players
There have been 19 entrants today so far, with late reg open for another five levels and a flight starting tonight at 8:30pm.
Players are obviously seeing some value in re-entering the tournament, with Marco Abela becoming the 2nd player today to bust and re-enter.
Good luck with your 2nd stack, guys!
Lvl 6 150/300/25 – 17 players
The Mediterranean vibe has fully permeated the Dragonara cardroom!
As Josef Borg, the casino poker manager, says: “This is the only poker room where the players actually need to wear sunglasses.”
BREAK 15 mins
Lvl 7 200/400/50 – 18 players
There have now been 22 entries for Day 1B meaning that there have now been a total of 62 entries over two flights and the prizepool currently stands at €11160.
There are 90 mins left to register for flight 1B and flight 1C starts at 8:30pm.
The atmosphere here is very chilled, the roof and windows are open, the cash games are bubbling…
The photographer has just arrived, so check our FB page for some photos!
Lvl 8 250/500/50 – 18 players
Still very relaxed here, seems like all the lunchtime players know that one cannot win a 2 day poker tournament on day1!
Lvl 9 300/600/50 – 18 players
BREAK 15 mins
Lvl 10 400/800/100 – 16 players
Into the last 90 minutes of play for this afternoon’s flight.
The sun is starting to go down, but it’s still warm enough to have the roof and windows open.
Lvl 11 500/1000/100 – 16 players
These players are hanging on!
The average stack is 44k, but there are 3 players with chipstacks over 100k, one is Danish cash game player Marlene Wraae who regged late and is now making the most of her stack, with her 2nd chance 15k chip still in reserve!
Lvl 12 600/1200/100 – 13 players
As we go into the last level of day 1B the average stack is 54k with 13 players remaining.
There are 6 players registered for the 8:30pm flight already.
Due to the late start of the afternoon flight, there will be some crossover, so if you’re playing tonight, make sure you sit at the right table and don’t accidentally bag your starting stack!
Close Of Play Day 1B
12 players made it through to Day2 from this flight:
