Mark Vella elminated in 10th place as his pocket 99s couldn’t dodge every bullet versus Mark Attard’s K10 and Marco La Grutta’s AK.
Short stack Attard trebled when he turned two pair, but Vella couldn’t recover from the K hi flop for the side pot and was eliminated by La Grutta.

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, Malta, February 2019: Day 2

Play will commence at 2pm on Sunday 10th February.

Seating Draw:
table-draw-day-2

Players are arriving for the 2pm start.

Blind levels are 45mins on day 2 and we start at level 13, 800/1600/100.

Lvl 13 – 800/1600/100 – 24 players – av stack 83750

Clock start 14:01.redbetlive malta dragonara paul kelly kat arnsby poker

As a side note, we’ll just point out that because this is well structured tourney, players are currently paying .5bb less per orbit in antes than they would be in a consolidated ante structure.

Quite a few players are late for the start, including chip leader, Mr Stellato.
2pm is a pretty early start here in the Med.

Big hand early on here on table 2 as Markus Larsson opened to 4k and Flavia Gledes shoved all in for 50k. Marco La Grutta tank called and then, with the usual drama and noise, Saviour Spiteri called behind.

Mark Vella

Mark Vella

Larsson did not look happy as he mucked his cards and the three way all in went to showdown. La Grutta was in a good position with AK versus Gledes’s AQ and Spiteri’s KJ. He stayed good and tripled up, eliminating Gledes and putting a dent in Spiteri’s stack.

Flavia Gledes eliminated in 24th place.

Alexsandrs Nizniks eliminated in 23rd place.

Martin Gamblin eliminated in 22nd place.

Lvl 14 – 1000/2000/200 – 21 players – av stack 96k

Jacqueline Harvey eliminated in 21st place.

Jacqueline Harvey

Jacqueline Harvey

Teemu Hietala eliminated in 20th place.

Eliminations coming thick and fast now as the shorter stacks make moves… and get obliterated…

Timely double up for Michele Montone after he shipped allin pre with A10 and won the flip versus Dieter Falzon’s pocket nines.

Per Steinar Sele eliminated in 19th place.

Play continues on two tables on this lovely, sunny afternoon.

Bouron Vincent eliminated in 18th place.

Lvl 15 – 1200/2400/200 – 17 players – av stack 125k

It’s the incremental levels that really make the difference to how fast the play feels in tournaments, and the traditional ante means players still get a .25bb discount on an orbit of play versus a consolidated ante structure, and that’s nine handed!

For players who mainly play one day turbos, this is one of the best poker tournament structures around for €200 buyin; tournament average is 50 bigs.

Marcin Trela eliminated in 17th place.

Mark Vella eliminated in 16th place.

Jacob Neilson eliminated in 15th place.

Jackie Cachia

Jackie Cachia

Jackie Cachia eliminated in 14th place.

We are getting closer to the final table, this is unusually early. There are some very strong players left in this field, so we think this will be an exciting final table.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 16 – 1500/3000/300 – 13 players – av stack 155k

Verot Timothee eliminated in 13th place.

Totti Lind was looking good for a double against Spiteri after he got it all in with KK v Spiteri’s JJ pre flop.
Q high flop was no threat… but the jack on the turn must have hurt like a wallop in the primaries with a giant hammer.

“I folded Ace Jack,” someone immediately stated. Thanks for sharing buddy… very unlucky Totti.

Totti Lind eliminated in 12th place.

Tortomasi Domenico eliminated in 11th place.

The tournament is now played hand for hand as the final table is 9 handed.

Neville Grech open shoved his short stack with A4 diamonds and got called by Stian Danielsen from the big blind with pocket nines.

Neville Grech

Neville Grech

KK6 flop with only one diamond looked safe for Danielsen, and the third King on the turn gave him a full house.
“Here comes a King,” Danielsen joked. There was no king… but there was an Ace. FT bubble double for Grech.

Lvl 17 – 2000/4000/400 – 10 players – av stack 201k

A double up for Danielsen after getting 30k in pre with AK versus Montone’s couldn’t-fold-for-the-extra A3.
K hi run out worked for Danielsen.

Minor boot off on table 2 after one player, who shall remain nameless, was taking about action during the hand… when he wasn’t in the hand.

Words were exchanged, feelings were hurt and a two-hand penalty was issued. All the boo-boos were kissed better and the adult game of poker continues.

Stian W. Danielsen eliminated in 10th place.

We have now reached the final table. There will be short break whilst the TD does a chipcount.

final-table

Play will restart in two minutes with daragh Davey going into the final table as the chip leader and Neville Grech as a short stack with a lot of work to do!

Lvl 18 – 2500/5000/500 – 9 players – av stack 223k

Final table is underway. Only 7 players will take money, so some players are hating life right now as they try to stay out of trouble until AFTER the shortest stacks have gotten themselves into trouble.

After losing a couple of small pots, Spiteri managed to get his full 90k stack in with QQ versus Stellato’s KJ preflop.
redbetlive-1129The ladies love Spiteri and he won the pot, he was quiet when he celebrated, and definitely did not shout really loudly and laugh and point.

Bone Fide sickness happened when Stellato open shoved 40 bigs from UTG with AJ, was called by Falzon with QQ and short stack Grech with KK.
Stellato had everyone covered, and thanks to Daragh Davey we know he had 30% against the two pairs.

No help for AJ as Grech casually turned quads and trebled up. Falzon suffered a small loss, but was left with 90k after winning the side pot.

Massive three way pot with Daragh Davey covering two players allin pre flop. Davey had AK, Montone had pocket sixes and Stellato had pocket jacks.
An ace on the flop and no last minute savers for the pocket pairs means that we’re down to seven players and Davey is the overwhelming chip leader.

Michele Montone eliminated in 9th place.

Andrea Stellato eliminated in 8th place.

BREAK – 30 mins

Lvl 19 – 3000/6000/600 – 7 players – av stack 285k

Dieter Falzon 7th place - €482

Dieter Falzon 7th place – €482

Dieter Falzon came back from the break and found an A on the button. He ripped 30 bigs into Davey on the big blind who woke up with pocket tens, snapped him off and sent him packing.

“You are running well, Sir,” Falzon said as he shook Davey’s hand.

Dieter Falzon eliminated in 7th place for €482.

Spiteri ran A9 into the AK of markus Larsson, all the chips went in on the ace high flop.

Spiteri called for a nine, begged for it, but it never came.

“That’s how you ladder!” shouted Grech as Spiteri walked away.

Saviour Spiteri eliminated in 6th place for €724.

Hougaard found himself in a bit of a mess after shoving his short stack allin pre with 86 of diamonds.
Larsson probably thought he was in good shape with pocket kings against eight high… but on this occasion a flopped flush draw turned into a flush for Hougaard by the river and he doubled up.

Play continues 5 handed.

Lvl 20 – 4000/8000/1000 – 5 players – av stack 402k

Hourgaard’s stack took a slapping when he couldn’t make pocket kings survive the A high gauntlet, and then the change was lost with 79 v A9.

Kresten Hougaard 5th place - €1085

Kresten Hougaard 5th place – €1085

Kresten Hougaard eliminated in 5th place for €1085.

Lvl 21 – 5k/10k/1k – 4 players – 502k

The four remaining players battle it out. They are all strong players and no-one is giving an inch.
They are 50 bigs deep average so this may take a while.

There are a lot of small pots being won and lost, with very few rivers being seen.
We have learned that if you eat a chocolate dessert next to Daragh Davey, he does a convincing impression of a starving street cat. Lols to sharing, obviously.

Grech found A7s on the button with 10 bigs and got it in. Unfortunately for him, Davey found AQ on the big blind.

Neville Grech - 4th place -€1347

Neville Grech – 4th place -€1347

Neville Grech eliminated in 4th place for €1327.

We have also lost Marco La Grutta… so quickly after Neville we missed the hand!

(update – he shipped A5 and Davey found a pair of nines that managed to hold.

Marco La Grutta - 3rd place - €1809

Marco La Grutta – 3rd place – €1809

Marco La Grutta eliminated in 3rd place for €1809.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 22 – 6k/12k/1k – headsup – av stack 1milly

Heads up play will begin with Davey as the chip leader.

Current stacks are Larsson with around 350k and Davey with the rest, but Larsson isn’t rolling over yet, taking the opportunity to 3-bet Davey’s last button open and getting a fold.

It’s back and forth here with the lads sniping at each other with pots small pots being won alternately. Larsson definitely isn’t giving this up easy.

Markus Larsson - 2nd place - €2412

Markus Larsson – 2nd place – €2412

Davey opened and was called to see 623 flop all spades. Larsson bet and was called, the turn was the K of spades.
Larsson tanked for a while before jamming all in for just under 300k into 1ook. Davey muttered soemething a bit grumpy sounding, but largely unintelligible before calling.

Larsson had a flopped Jack flush, but Davey turned the Q high flush and so it was game over.

Markus Larsson eliminated in 2nd place for €2412.

Daragh Davey IS THE WINNER for €4221.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 14/15 players

It’s gone quiet.

Day 2 entry is not available in this tournament.

We’re here waiting for the gentle afternoon flight to begin. 1 player is registered, 1 dealer sits patiently, 1 Tournament Director tries to look busy, 1 redbet rep attacks the valet for a massive coffee.
Just a normal redbet afternoon at Dragonara, Malta.

Play will start in 20 mins(ish)._d3_0854

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 5/5 players

Clock started at 14:41  with 5 players. Registration is open till the end of level 9, until around 8pm.

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 6/6 players

Very quiet and peaceful game of afternoon poker happening here. We have chilled music on the stereo and if you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend your Saturday, then this may be the place.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 6/6 players

We redbetlive malta dragonara stellato feb2019have learned this level that Andrea Stellato does not want “disco music” in a poker room. Seems reasonable, how do you feel about thrash metal?

One re-entry has happened, and a new player joined us as the evening begins to fall on this delightful Mediterranean island.

It was pretty chilled here, there appears to be some sort of dispute happening, but TD Paul Kelly is dealing with it._d3_0838

Lvl 8 250/500/50 – 7/11 players

redbetlive-0970The evening quietly rolls on as the few players from the afternoon hang in for Day2 to come.
Evening flight registration is open already with two players registered.

This is the last level of registration for the afternoon flight. Players will play until the end of level 12 today.

These guys have worked hard for this day 2. Short handed play is very taxing when you are more used to full 9/10 handed tables.
They are on the home stretch now.

Four players made it through from Day 1B after a mad flurry in the last five hands where two players were eliminated back to back!

Play starts again tomorrow, Sunday 10th February at 2pm. Please arrive five minutes early to open your chip bag!

We TOLD Tournament Director Paul Kelly that it’s unprofessional not to start on time, but he never listens.

We’re sticking with the traditional ante for this tournament, and this information was received with mixes feelings by the regular players locally.
We are pleased to say that at this point, no-one has forgotten to put their ante in, probably because the antes don’t kick in for another four levels.

Time is flying by here tonight as players come and go. There is a live saxophonist playing in the main casino so we’ve been funking out to his tunage.

Goodbye 2018!

This time of year is usually pretty exhausting… assuming you’re an adult, obviously! Kids are having a great time right now.

Sometimes I do feel like a bit of a kid, I work in the gaming industry, and not in one of the serious jobs like legal or compliance.
I get to play and market my favourite game in the world… THE POKERS!!

The Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) is settling into its new software followng launch on redbet in September; no-one’s pretending there aren’t bugs, we’re not blind, but I can see the work they are doing, and I’m excited for 2019 in that respect.
Alex Scott is the boss of MPN, and he and his team are very committed, and are pushed and nagged by the various brand managers on the network.

Fireworks at a redbetLIVE event in Malta.

Fireworks at a redbetLIVE event in Malta.

We don’t think we always get it right, but we absolutely know we care about getting it right.

If you want to get involved in the discussion you can go to the MPN thread on 2+2 and talk directly to the head of poker (Alex), the online poker room manager (Peter) and the live poker tour manager (Richard); they all  go on there regularly and answer questions.

MPN don’t hire shills and hide behind them, they take it on the chin themselves.

There’s quite a lot going on on redbet and the network to end 2018 and see in 2019.

On 30th December there will be the €50k gtd BLOWOUT tournament and satellites are already running from 10c.
At the same time the Merry Missions promotion is running, which means you can play to win from the Missions and also qualify for BLOWOUT tournament.

The live tour arm of Microgaming poker will be in Tallinn, Estonia, 24th-27th January.
Tallinn is an amazing city, and I recommend anyone should visit; it’s one of those places where you’ll never be bored if you bust the poker!merry-missions-campaign-1200x628

I can’t go myself, because I’ll be in Blackpool with the BLUFFEurope writers’ team at the APAT Team Championships; we’re trying to better our points score from last year… which was a healthy ZERO POINTS!!
If you are planning Tallinn, make sure to buy some thermals, because in January, it will be a winter wonderland.

As ever, if you have any questions, or just wanna moan about bad beats, you can hit me up directly on Facebook as Kat Redbet or on Twitter as Redbet Kat!

I wish you all a joyful festive season, and hope you get some new year rungood!

Artur Okon eliminated in 26th place.

Antoine DeGiorgio rocks up at 14:18 like a boss.

Daniel Clemente eliminated in 25th place.

Lvl 14 – 1000/2000/200 – 24/72 remaining – av stack 90k

With tournament average stack of 45 bigs, there is no real pressure on most players left. The shortstacks that started the day have not been running well and they have fallen.

The other players now have enough chips and elbow room to settle in for the afternoon of poker.

Antoine DeGiorgio eliminated in 24th place. He doesn’t seem to mind and claims he’s now going to go and sleep.

Raphael Toledo eliminated in 23rd place.ina pavlova redbetLIVE malta dragonara

Claudio Fagone eliminated in 22nd place.

Simone Saracino eliminated in 21st place.

Lvl 15 – 1200/2400/200 – 20/72 remaining – av stack 120k

Domenico Speranza eliminated in 20th place.

Alesio Bergamo eliminated in 19th place.

Puking about an ugly ruling here.
Player all in, and one player calls – everyone else folds.

The cards go on the backs, and everyone present sees them.

The dealer has a moment and randomly mucks the whole lot and pushes the pot to the player who had the best pre-flop hand.

_d3_9999The allin player had As7d and the caller had JhJd as everyone knew.

The rule that was, finally, made, was that the cards would be rescued (both sets cos no-one had live cards at that point) and the hand dealt from the remaining full 48 cards.
The player with A7 was eliminated and not happy.
What a mess. Can you think of a fairer resolution… one you would think was right if you were either player?

Totti Lind eliminated in 18th place.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 16 – 1500/3000/300 – 17/72 remaining – av stack 127k

Players return, refreshed after the break. The playing sessions are quite long in Day 2, with 3 x 45 mins between each break, but a super deep structure requires some sacrifices!_d3_9990

Lvl 17 – 2000/4000/400 – 17/72 remaining – av stack 127k

No-one is budging, despite lots of pots being played. The deep structure is making the poker fun and giving everyone a chance to play some hands without having to shove a short stack once an orbit.

Jason Aquillne eliminated in 17th place. This will not be surprising to him or his opponents… as he did not actually arrive to play Day 2 and his 62k stack has blinded out down to zero.

Somer Venelderson eliminated in 16th place.

Salvatore Ritavaro eliminated in 15th place.

Lvl 18 – 2500/5000/500 – 14/72 players remaining- av stack 154k

_d3_9931The money starts at the final table and we’re getting close with 14 players remaining.

Micheal Edge eliminated in 14th place.

Tomasz Brzezinski eliminated in 13th place, two tables of six players remain in this tournament and the side event starts in one hour.
There are already a couple of entries for this, so if you want to play, we recommend a prompt arrival.

Jonus Larsson eliminated in 12th place after some dirty action against Onno Vrijburg after Larsson got a large stack in preflop with KK versus Vrijburg’s QQ.
The queen on the flop was a slap in the face for Larsson, and the queen on the turn really finished off the job.

Daily Quads for Vrijburg and the rail for Larsson.

BREAK – 30 mins

Players are now on a 30 minute dinner break.

Chip counts of the remaining 11 players

Lvl 19 – 3000/6000/500 – 11/72 players – av stack 196k

They players are off for the next playing session of the day, and there is some tough competition still left in this game.
The final table will be a battle._d3_0062

Conor Oldroyd eliminated in 11th place after working his short stack like an ninja for the last few orbits.

Lvl 20 – 4000/8000/500 – 10/72 players – av stack 216k

The side event is underway with twenty players and the main is rumbling on. The remaining players are now hand for hand until the 9 handed final table is reached.

Lvl 21 – 5k/10k/1k – 10/72 – av stack 216k

Deep structure + Players who know ICM = long bubble

Onno Vrijburg eliminated in 10th place after being crippled by a lost race pre-flop.

Players are taking a five minute break before continuing.

Hutuleac Gzauril Bouiel eliminated in 9th place for €250.

Play here is deliciously fast, despite the standard ante. The players are powering through and there are lots of small pots happening._d3_0035
Mark Berman is the short stack and he’s finding spots to take those blinds without showing us what he’s playing.

There appears to be a 90s megamix on the radio… not sure what we can say about that to be honest!

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 22 – 6k/12k/1k – 8/72 players – av stack 270k

8 players remain in contention here and although the average stack is started to approach the 20 big blind mark, there are some big stacks with the power to dominate.

The final table is very friendly, with players laughing and gently teasing eachother.

Lvl 23 – 8k/16k/2k – 8/72 remaining – av stack 270k

Play is solid on this final table, and not one of the remaining is giving one inch to another. There is relentless agression, but we are not seeing many flops, let alone rivers.

_d3_9937Marc Schembri on the line after Pavlova jammed him for his 9 bigs from the small blind. He snapped his big blind with AQ and Pavlova turned over J7.
The flop was ten high and Ina asked for a jack.
The turn was a nine and Ina changed tack and asked for an eight. The dealer obliged and the arrival of her gutter ball meant the exit of Schembri.

Mark Schembri eliminated in 8th place for €360.

All in shove was the right move for Grech with his short stack and A8 in his hand. Grech was called by Mikael Thomas who held 99 and there was no salvation for Grech.

Neville Grech eliminated in 7th place for €620.

Luca Beretti deal a blow to Thomas’s stack by finding AK and getting 15 bigs in pre against Thomas’s JJ.
The turn was an Ace and Beretti sat down with his 300k+ stack and leaving Thomas with around 13bigs.

Mallia doubles to 270k after his A10 won a pre-flop flip against Pavlova’s 88.

Lvl 24 – 10k/20k/2k – 6/72 remaining – av stack 360k

Michele Monrone found a spot to shove 8 bigs from the small blind into Berman’s big blind. Berman snapped his arm of with K8 and was slightly miffed to see that Monrone had AK.
The King high flop didn’t offer much hope for Berman, the the runner-runner straight he made with his 8.

Michele Monrone eliminated in 6th place for €880.Jeffrey Malia redbet Dragonara Malta Nov 18

Jeffrey Malia found a suited Ace with less than 10bigs and got it in. Unfortunately for him, Berman found a better Ace on the big blind and Mallia couldn’t even get a sweat on.

Jeffrey Malia eliminated in 5th place for €1100.

We have just learned that Mark Berman has played 5 redbetLIVE at Dragonara events and made the final table FIVE OUT OF FIVE TIMES!
That is a pretty sick statistic.

Beretti gets a saver as he got 15 bigs in with A9 all in pre against Berman’s AJ and survived with a chopped pot when the run out threw down an Ace, two fives and a king.

The very next hand Beretti takes the double from Berman.

Mikael Thomas all in for 86k and Berman calls… it’s K2 v K9 and the K2 survived the rapids to double up Thomas.

Thomas runs another race against Beretti and loses again. Thomas has been unlucky on this final.

Mikael Thomas eliminated in 4th place for €1550.

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 24 – 15k/30k/3k – 3/72 remaining – av stack 720k

The players are fairly even stacked and are discussing a deal.

The exact chop value is €2.7k and the TD has announced the ICM chop would be around very close, so marginal chip leader, Berman, wants to forgo the extra and take the trophy because he’s 0/5 on final tables and trophies.

A deal has been agreed for an exact equal split of €2733 with Berman taking the trophy.

Congratulations to all players, and a heads-up for the next event dates at Dragonara are 1st-3rd February 2019. See you all there!

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, November 2018: Day1C

15 mins to go on clock start here at Dragonara as flight 1B runs into the last three levels of play.

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 6/6 playersKitai Malta Poker Dragonara

Clock starts at 19:31 and the rodeo rolls for the second time today!

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 7/7 players

Some serious looking faces on this table, the poker passion is palpable.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 12/13 players

Few players rocked up for action in the last level, there is quite a lot of laughing now, so people seem to be settling in.

BREAK – 15 mins

_d3_9755Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 16/17 players

A few faces from yesterday and this afternoon have returned to the battle to try again. GL everyone!

We have also learned tonight that Andrea Stellato invented limp strategy and floating… so Stellato is a floater?

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 19/21 players

We have reached the gtd prizepool amount here, and there are still players registering. This is great news, and with only 17 through to Day2 so far there is plenty of room for more tomorrow!

Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 19/21 players

Nearly half way through Day 1C and the average stack is 110 bigs, so it’s no lie when we say this tournament structure is very gentle!

Players still sneaking in, possibly after busting one of the other local games. Malta is our favourite place in the whole world for low-stakes poker, because whenever you come out here, whatever time of year, you’ll be able to get a decent game of low-stakes poker.

Lvl 8 – 200/400/50 – 21/25 players

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 18/26 players

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/100 – 17/27

We are playing on 2 tables here and players may be entering the cling on for Day 2 stage.
On the other hand, as Antoine told us in the break, he’s “feeling creative”… so anything could happen.

Attention all players! If you move the button for the dealer, the etiquette is to notify them!
You can say “button good” or something, or just tap the table sharply twice with the button as you move it. The poor old dealer might move it twice and then there’s a right old carry-on!

Attention all dealers! Seriously, pay attention; cos even when the players mess stuff up, it’s still your fault. #DealerLife

Oh these people wanna make Day2.
We have 14 minutes till we stop the clock on the final flight of the November event. The players will then play 3/4/5 final hands to close down the day.

We have had 72 players for this event and this generates a prizepool of €12960.
The full payout breakdown will be published tomorrow.

12 players made it through to Day 2 from Day 1C.
Play starts at 14:00 tomorrow with blinds of 800/1600/100.

This may be the first time we have reached level four without an elimination; this is especially unexpected as Totti Lind is playing. #BantzOn

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 17/19

We have made it to the introduction of the antes, and this afternoon’s players have decided not to have a big discussion about button or bb antes. Maybe standard antes are not entirely unpopular…?

Okay, disregard the above, the ante discussion happened, and it was beautiful and emotional.

Last two levels for registration. Day 1 plays to level 12.

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 15/16 players

There’s a bit of a rumble happening over the fact we are still using a standard ante on this tournament.

The primary reason for this is that the brand manager and the TD are old skool poker heads and hate change, the second reason is that every other tournament this year in the series has been standard ante and we didn’t want to switch on the last event of the year just because everyone else is!

We’re thinking about whether we make the switch for next year, we’re not “anti” it! #comedygold
