29 players will start the day and the seating draw:

Lvl 13 – 800/1600/100 – 29/72 remaining – av stack 74.5k

Clock started bang on 14:00 level 13 at with 29 players who will now play through to completion of the tournament for a top prize of €3600.

The tournament clock waits for no man, nor woman, nor any other gender.

Mikael Thomas

Mikael Thomas

Early bath for Christian Johansen as he runs his turned straight into Mikael Thomas’s turned flush.

Christian Johansen eliminated in 29th place.

Marek Olejnik eliminated in 28th place.

We now move down to three tables as this tournament is 9 handed.

Kitai No Boei eliminated in 27th place.

Artur Okon eliminated in 26th place.

Antoine DeGiorgio rocks up at 14:18 like a boss.

Daniel Clemente eliminated in 25th place.

Lvl 14 – 1000/2000/200 – 24/72 remaining – av stack 90k

With tournament average stack of 45 bigs, there is no real pressure on most players left. The shortstacks that started the day have not been running well and they have fallen.

The other players now have enough chips and elbow room to settle in for the afternoon of poker.

Antoine DeGiorgio eliminated in 24th place. He doesn’t seem to mind and claims he’s now going to go and sleep.

Raphael Toledo eliminated in 23rd place.ina pavlova redbetLIVE malta dragonara

Claudio Fagone eliminated in 22nd place.

Simone Saracino eliminated in 21st place.

Lvl 15 – 1200/2400/200 – 20/72 remaining – av stack 120k

Domenico Speranza eliminated in 20th place.

Alesio Bergamo eliminated in 19th place.

Puking about an ugly ruling here.
Player all in, and one player calls – everyone else folds.

The cards go on the backs, and everyone present sees them.

The dealer has a moment and randomly mucks the whole lot and pushes the pot to the player who had the best pre-flop hand.

_d3_9999The allin player had As7d and the caller had JhJd as everyone knew.

The rule that was, finally, made, was that the cards would be rescued (both sets cos no-one had live cards at that point) and the hand dealt from the remaining full 48 cards.
The player with A7 was eliminated and not happy.
What a mess. Can you think of a fairer resolution… one you would think was right if you were either player?

Totti Lind eliminated in 18th place.

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 16 – 1500/3000/300 – 17/72 remaining – av stack 127k

Players return, refreshed after the break. The playing sessions are quite long in Day 2, with 3 x 45 mins between each break, but a super deep structure requires some sacrifices!_d3_9990

Lvl 17 – 2000/4000/400 – 17/72 remaining – av stack 127k

No-one is budging, despite lots of pots being played. The deep structure is making the poker fun and giving everyone a chance to play some hands without having to shove a short stack once an orbit.

Jason Aquillne eliminated in 17th place. This will not be surprising to him or his opponents… as he did not actually arrive to play Day 2 and his 62k stack has blinded out down to zero.

Somer Venelderson eliminated in 16th place.

Salvatore Ritavaro eliminated in 15th place.

Lvl 18 – 2500/5000/500 – 14/72 players remaining- av stack 154k

_d3_9931The money starts at the final table and we’re getting close with 14 players remaining.

Micheal Edge eliminated in 14th place.

Tomasz Brzezinski eliminated in 13th place, two tables of six players remain in this tournament and the side event starts in one hour.
There are already a couple of entries for this, so if you want to play, we recommend a prompt arrival.

Jonus Larsson eliminated in 12th place after some dirty action against Onno Vrijburg after Larsson got a large stack in preflop with KK versus Vrijburg’s QQ.
The queen on the flop was a slap in the face for Larsson, and the queen on the turn really finished off the job.

Daily Quads for Vrijburg and the rail for Larsson.

BREAK – 30 mins

Players are now on a 30 minute dinner break.

Chip counts of the remaining 11 players

Lvl 19 – 3000/6000/500 – 11/72 players – av stack 196k

They players are off for the next playing session of the day, and there is some tough competition still left in this game.
The final table will be a battle._d3_0062

Conor Oldroyd eliminated in 11th place after working his short stack like an ninja for the last few orbits.

Lvl 20 – 4000/8000/500 – 10/72 players – av stack 216k

The side event is underway with twenty players and the main is rumbling on. The remaining players are now hand for hand until the 9 handed final table is reached.

Lvl 21 – 5k/10k/1k – 10/72 – av stack 216k

Deep structure + Players who know ICM = long bubble

Onno Vrijburg eliminated in 10th place after being crippled by a lost race pre-flop.

Players are taking a five minute break before continuing.

Hutuleac Gzauril Bouiel eliminated in 9th place for €250.

Play here is deliciously fast, despite the standard ante. The players are powering through and there are lots of small pots happening._d3_0035
Mark Berman is the short stack and he’s finding spots to take those blinds without showing us what he’s playing.

There appears to be a 90s megamix on the radio… not sure what we can say about that to be honest!

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 22 – 6k/12k/1k – 8/72 players – av stack 270k

8 players remain in contention here and although the average stack is started to approach the 20 big blind mark, there are some big stacks with the power to dominate.

The final table is very friendly, with players laughing and gently teasing eachother.

Lvl 23 – 8k/16k/2k – 8/72 remaining – av stack 270k

Play is solid on this final table, and not one of the remaining is giving one inch to another. There is relentless agression, but we are not seeing many flops, let alone rivers.

_d3_9937Marc Schembri on the line after Pavlova jammed him for his 9 bigs from the small blind. He snapped his big blind with AQ and Pavlova turned over J7.
The flop was ten high and Ina asked for a jack.
The turn was a nine and Ina changed tack and asked for an eight. The dealer obliged and the arrival of her gutter ball meant the exit of Schembri.

Mark Schembri eliminated in 8th place for €360.

All in shove was the right move for Grech with his short stack and A8 in his hand. Grech was called by Mikael Thomas who held 99 and there was no salvation for Grech.

Neville Grech eliminated in 7th place for €620.

Luca Beretti deal a blow to Thomas’s stack by finding AK and getting 15 bigs in pre against Thomas’s JJ.
The turn was an Ace and Beretti sat down with his 300k+ stack and leaving Thomas with around 13bigs.

Mallia doubles to 270k after his A10 won a pre-flop flip against Pavlova’s 88.

Lvl 24 – 10k/20k/2k – 6/72 remaining – av stack 360k

Michele Monrone found a spot to shove 8 bigs from the small blind into Berman’s big blind. Berman snapped his arm of with K8 and was slightly miffed to see that Monrone had AK.
The King high flop didn’t offer much hope for Berman, the the runner-runner straight he made with his 8.

Michele Monrone eliminated in 6th place for €880.Jeffrey Malia redbet Dragonara Malta Nov 18

Jeffrey Malia found a suited Ace with less than 10bigs and got it in. Unfortunately for him, Berman found a better Ace on the big blind and Mallia couldn’t even get a sweat on.

Jeffrey Malia eliminated in 5th place for €1100.

We have just learned that Mark Berman has played 5 redbetLIVE at Dragonara events and made the final table FIVE OUT OF FIVE TIMES!
That is a pretty sick statistic.

Beretti gets a saver as he got 15 bigs in with A9 all in pre against Berman’s AJ and survived with a chopped pot when the run out threw down an Ace, two fives and a king.

The very next hand Beretti takes the double from Berman.

Mikael Thomas all in for 86k and Berman calls… it’s K2 v K9 and the K2 survived the rapids to double up Thomas.

Thomas runs another race against Beretti and loses again. Thomas has been unlucky on this final.

Mikael Thomas eliminated in 4th place for €1550.

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 24 – 15k/30k/3k – 3/72 remaining – av stack 720k

The players are fairly even stacked and are discussing a deal.

The exact chop value is €2.7k and the TD has announced the ICM chop would be around very close, so marginal chip leader, Berman, wants to forgo the extra and take the trophy because he’s 0/5 on final tables and trophies.

A deal has been agreed for an exact equal split of €2733 with Berman taking the trophy.

Congratulations to all players, and a heads-up for the next event dates at Dragonara are 1st-3rd February 2019. See you all there!

Clock starts at 19:31 and the rodeo rolls for the second time today!

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 7/7 players

Some serious looking faces on this table, the poker passion is palpable.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 12/13 players

Few players rocked up for action in the last level, there is quite a lot of laughing now, so people seem to be settling in.

BREAK – 15 mins

_d3_9755Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 16/17 players

We have also learned tonight that Andrea Stellato invented limp strategy and floating… so Stellato is a floater?

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 19/21 players

We have reached the gtd prizepool amount here, and there are still players registering. This is great news, and with only 17 through to Day2 so far there is plenty of room for more tomorrow!

Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 19/21 players

Nearly half way through Day 1C and the average stack is 110 bigs, so it’s no lie when we say this tournament structure is very gentle!

We are playing on 2 tables here and players may be entering the cling on for Day 2 stage.
On the other hand, as Antoine told us in the break, he’s “feeling creative”… so anything could happen.

Attention all players! If you move the button for the dealer, the etiquette is to notify them!
You can say “button good” or something, or just tap the table sharply twice with the button as you move it. The poor old dealer might move it twice and then there’s a right old carry-on!

Attention all dealers! Seriously, pay attention; cos even when the players mess stuff up, it’s still your fault. #DealerLife

We have 14 minutes till we stop the clock on the final flight of the November event. The players will then play 3/4/5 final hands to close down the day.

We have had 72 players for this event and this generates a prizepool of €12960.
The full payout breakdown will be published tomorrow.

We have made it to the introduction of the antes, and this afternoon’s players have decided not to have a big discussion about button or bb antes. Maybe standard antes are not entirely unpopular…?

Okay, disregard the above, the ante discussion happened, and it was beautiful and emotional.

Last Minute Chance to Get to Malta Poker Festival

mpfMore than six months ago, I convinced the redbet Casino VIP manager that he wanted to spend some of his budget on poker packages for the Malta Poker Festival, 1st-6th November 2018.

The reasons for this were two-fold:

  • 1) I genuinely believed it would be a nice gift to casino VIP players. Many play poker anyway, and I figured those that didn’t would be up for a nice Mediterranean holiday. Big live poker events are mainly handled by the event organiser, so to reward casino VIPs in this way is cost and effort effective for smaller brands like redbet.
  • 2)I couldn’t afford the sponsorship out of the poker budget alone.

Malta Poker Festival have a pretty good sponsorship deal, and redbet got 30 x packages of €1400 value included in the cost (we add €250 expenses to make the value to poker players €1650).
The agreement was that 15 packages belonged to the redbet poker department and 15 belonged to the redbet casino VIP department.

I’ve had great fun giving these away, and unlike some smaller poker brands, I was not desperately worried about overlay, because I had explained to my boss that we had agreed a marketing cost, and as a result had 15 x “shop window” products to shift.

At the time of writing, of the 30 Malta Poker Festival Packages that redbet bought from the organiser, 13 have been given to redbet Casino VIPs as rewards for being valued customers, 8 have been won in package finals (1 to go -5pmGMT 28th Oct), 4 have been given away in social media promos and 2 poker influencers were invited by me personally (Simon Jones cos he’s good craic and supports our brand, and Donna Morten who supports every poker brand).

Now, if you’re good at maths, you’ll count that as 28 packages… and 28 is a number that is 2 lower than 30; it’s that kinda maths skillz that make my bosses respect me.

The two extra packages are casino VIP ones that they did not get around to giving away, and I had a discussion with the VIP manager as to what he wants to do with them.
He had a couple of ideas, but in the end, I convinced him that the lowstakes poker community would be grateful for them, probably more than casino VIPs might.

He said, “yeah, go on then, offer them up”.

Boom. €3300 donated by the redbet casino team to the redbet poker function.
We probably owe them a beer!

Me working hard at a redbetLIVE event

Me working hard at a redbetLIVE event

I’ve decided to slap on two tournaments to win these packages.
I could have done a freeroll, but decided to give an advantage to players who have tickets already because they’ve been supporting the satellite route.
I have decided on a €1.25 unlimited rebuy tourney and a €6.25 unlimited rebuy tourney because these are the most common outstanding tickets in the system.
The lower value tickets can still be used to win €1.25 or €6.25 tickets for use in these aggro rebuy finals. Both structures will be quite aggressive, but the €6.25 will be less so due to the higher buyin.

They will happen at GMT 6pm (€1.25) 7pm (€6.25) in addition to the final scheduled package satty (€156.25) which starts at 5pm on Sunday 28th Oct.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the satellite route, there are many daily flips to win €1.25/€6.25 tickets and the route starts at 1c. The lower value flips are in place until Oct 25th.

The reason I’m writing this is for transparency about the methods we use to generate members, sales and package value.
I have nothing to hide in the way my company, or my poker network does business, so I may as well tell you about it, huh?

See you at the tables, or hopefully, in Malta very soon!

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, September 2018: Day 1B

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 6/6players

Started bang on time today with some of the beloved redbet regs who turned up in time to play.
Traffic for this event is a little slow this time around, but we know the local players are busy trying to qualify for the two massive events happening on the Island in a few weeks.

redbet is sponsoring both Battle of Malta and The Malta Poker Festival, and online qualifiers are available now with feeder routes and finals for both complete packages and seat only tickets.
You can check out the full schedule by creating a poker account and looking at the poker lobby. (drop down menu on top left  if you prefer a language other than English).

We’re just gonna sit here and chill for the afternoon. What you gonna do?

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 10/10 playersTotti Lind redbetLIVE Malta

As expected, the players are arriving slowly for this afternoon.
Feel free to come and join us, this is a nine handed tournament, so there are seats open, you’ll sit down with 300 blinds right now.

Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 14/14 players

The gentle trickle of players continues! Satellite winner Totti Lind has rocked up  to play, we’re just glad he could find the casino!

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 14/15 players

Jackie Cachia AKA PokerMamma continues to run like a centipede with no legs as she manages to smash into Totti Lind’s AA preflop. We feel here pain, it’s not possible to overcome the #ScandiLuckbox effect. Unlucky PokerMamma, hope the 2nd bullet hits the mark!

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 13/15 players_00a7355

Crusing into level five, the atmosphere is friendly.
Three lads have turned up to see what’s happening. Should we convince them to play, or try to preserve the hope of some overlay?

Lvl 6 – 150/300/50 – 18/21 players

Sudden flurry of players as the afternoon sun begins to dip.
We get it guys, we love poker, but being able to sit on a beach all day in September is pretty good too!

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 14/21 players

Unusual for us to get more players on a Saturday afternoon than a Friday night, but hey, who can really predict the poker action on the Rock Of Poker?

Lvl 8 – 250/500/50 – 13/21 players

Technically still an hour to go of late reg on this flight, but reg for the evening flight opens at 19:30, so all the options are yours!

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 13/21 players

_00a7161We have entered the last level of play for Day 1B.
Given that only 8 players made it through  to Day2 from Day 1A, it’s looking like Day2 might be an easy day for the remaining players…?

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 13/21 players

Entry is now closed for flight 1B but open for Flight 1C!

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/50 – 12/21 players

Average stack in this flight is currently 52k which is more than enough to be a contender tomorrow, so we expect to see play tighten up a bit now as people want to get to Day2.
Playing six handed is much more fun anyway, as it’s more likely to be a good move to play a wider range of cards!

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100  – 11/21 players

Into the last level of play.
We will play down to 10 mins remaining in this level and then we will draw for 3/4/5 final hands.
Our players always seem to pick 5 hands blind from the card selection… we guess they just like playing!

10 players made it through to Day2 and return tomorrow, Sunday 30th at 2pm to continue play:

_d3_8095Level 3 – 75/150 – 16/16 players

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 20/20 players

A few re-entered the evening flight after busting late in the day on 1b.
Saturday night always seems to be the flight where players take the game most seriously.

Lvl 5 – 100/200/25 – 20/22 players

With a total of 81 entries so far to this month’s event, we are looking for one more runner to break the record!

 Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 18/22 players

BREAK – 15 mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/25 –  19/25

Play is toughening up as we approach the last hour of play before re-entry closes._d3_8292

Lvl 8 – 250/500/50 – 18/25 players

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 18-25 players

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 17/26 players

It’s official! With 86 entries, the official record has been broken for this little local tournament at Dragonara, and the total prize pool is €15660!

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/100 – 14/26 player

One hour to go on flight 1B.
23 players have made it through, how many will be back tomorrow from the remaining players?

Jonas Larrsson just won a massive pot, 300k+ after getting it in with the best set against another set and top two. Poker is sick, two eliminations in one hand, Larrsson with chunks, and one guy trying to bribe the TD for entry.
We love low stakes poker!!

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100 – 10/26 players

8 players made it through from Day 1C, everyone will return tomorrow, Sunday 22nd at 2pm.

redbetLIVE at Dragonara, Malta, July 2018: Day 1B

Lvl 1 – 25/50 – 9 players

Players up bright and early for felt based shennanigans.
We missed the exact cards in the air moment because we were sunbathing. Yeah, who ya gonna call?

Lvl 2 – 50/100 – 10/10 players

The sun is shining and the players keep strolling in.

_d3_7798Lvl 3 – 75/150 – 14/14 players

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 4 – 100/200 – 16/16 players

The chat has moved onto sports betting and whether or not it’s a skill game. We’re not sure, but you can check out the bonuses available to sports fans on redbet.
How’s that for a smooth move brand shout-out, huh?

Lvl 6 – 150/300/25 – 16/19 players

BREAK – 15mins

Lvl 7 – 200/400/50 – 16/20 players

Another level, another re-entry. This has blown our tiny minds here to be honest, we have now 59 total entries and 3 levels of entry left in this afternoon’s flight, with another flight this evening!
This was always intended to be a small, local event for local players to enjoy some serious deepstack poker without having to sell a kidney; we are overwhelmed at the support, and wish all players the best of luck!

 Lvl 8 – 250/500/50 – 15/21 players

The competition heats up as such deep stacks and slow structures mean that everyone has plenty of chips to play with. 5bets pre anyone?

Lvl 9 – 300/600/50 – 14/21 players

We are now entering the final level of entry for flight 1B.
We play until the end of Level 12 today, and registration for flight 1C opens in about 20 minutes.

BREAK – 15 mins_d3_8077-edit

Lvl 10 – 400/800/100 – 13/22 players

22 the closing number on flight 1B, with a last minute entry.
What do you reckon? Enter at the last minute or enter at the start of flight 1C?
Option A followed by option B if option A goes down the wrong way?

Lvl 11 – 500/1000/100 – 8/22 players

Active last level for the players of Day 1B as they smelled the new flight starting and did not like the look of a short stack.

Lvl 12 – 600/1200/100 – 7/22 players

Going into the last level of play there are just 7 soldiers remaining. Will they all survive? Closing chipcounts will be posted here as soon as we have them.

5 players made it through to day 2 from day 1B and will come back tomorrow, Sunday 22nd at 2pm to finish the tournament.

Great turn-out for Day 1A of this event, and there are 30 minutes remaining to enter this flight.
